Finance Minister Shri P. Chidambaram has personally appreciated the achievement of Shri F.D. Engineer, who is about 100 years old, for filing his Income-tax return on 31st July, 2007 along with payment of due taxes. He congratulated the tax payer and conveyed his best wishes. Shri Chidambaram asked the Income Tax Deptt. to process the Income-tax return of Shri Engineer, resident of Secunderabad, Andhra Pradesh, on 11th October, 07 and the same was done the next day.

Tax compliance by elderly taxpayer prompts administrative processing and expedited action by revenue department following ministerial recognition. A centenarian taxpayer filed an Income-tax return and paid the due tax; the Finance Minister acknowledged this compliance and instructed the income-tax administration to process the return on a specified date, which the department carried out promptly the next day, underscoring tax compliance and administrative processing of income-tax returns upon ministerial direction.
