India's Himachal Pradesh Seeks Industrial Incentives Extension; NITI Aayog to Develop New Policy for Himalayan States.
The Government of India initially announced an industrial incentives package for Himachal Pradesh in 2003, which was extended until March 2017 with modifications. The modified package included a Capital Investment Subsidy of 15% on plant machinery investments, capped at Rs. 30 lakhs. The Himachal Pradesh government requested a five-year extension of the subsidy and a review of the discontinued Freight Subsidy Scheme 2013 to boost state investment. A committee led by NITI Aayog was formed to develop a new industrial policy for North Eastern and Himalayan states. The first committee meeting took place on February 23, 2017, in New Delhi.
