Cabinet Approves Amendment to Extend Collection of Statistics Act to Jammu & Kashmir for Improved Data Collection.
The Union Cabinet, led by the Prime Minister, approved a proposal to amend the Collection of Statistics Act, 2008, to extend its jurisdiction to Jammu and Kashmir. This amendment aims to enhance data collection in the region by covering matters under the Union and Concurrent Lists of the Constitution, as applicable to Jammu and Kashmir. It will appoint nodal officers to coordinate data collection and prevent duplication. The existing legislative gap, due to the non-applicability of the central Act in Jammu and Kashmir, will be addressed, allowing for concurrent jurisdiction by the Centre in statistical matters.
