Association of Private Airport Operators has requested the Government to bring aviation fuel under the Goods and Services Tax (GST) and to double the duty free allowances for passengers coming from abroad. In the model of the GST which has been proposed by the Empowered Committee of State Finance Ministers, it has not been possible to bring aviation turbine fuel under the purview of the GST. Also, it has not been found feasible to accede to the request to double the duty free allowances for passengers coming from abroad.

This information was given by the Minister of State for Finance, Shri S.S. Palanimanickam in written reply to a question raised in Rajya Sabha today.
 

Aviation turbine fuel exclusion from GST upheld; request to include it and to raise passenger duty free allowances denied. A request to bring aviation turbine fuel within the Goods and Services Tax and to double passenger duty free allowances was not accepted: the proposed GST model did not permit inclusion of aviation turbine fuel, and increasing duty free concessions for arriving passengers was found infeasible.
