This extension applies to taxpayers whose accounts require auditing, specifically those with business receipts exceeding one crore rupees or professional receipts over twenty-five lakh rupees for the fiscal year 2015-16. The decision by the Central Board of Direct Taxes aims to alleviate inconvenience and ease compliance, considering the overlap with the last date for declarations under the Income Declaration Scheme 2016, which was also set for 30th September 2016.
