The Minister of State for Corporate Affairs, R.P.N. Singh stated that it is not mandatory for every company to have a corporate social responsibility. But the Government has issued “Corporate Social Responsibility Voluntary Guidelines 2009” for adoption by Companies voluntarily.

The Minister was replying to a question in the Lok Sabha recently.

Corporate social responsibility voluntary: non-binding government guidelines enable companies to adopt CSR practices without mandatory obligation. Corporate social responsibility is voluntary: the government does not require every company to have CSR. The Minister of State for Corporate Affairs stated CSR is not compulsory and that the Corporate Social Responsibility Voluntary Guidelines 2009 have been issued for companies to adopt voluntarily, providing a non binding framework to encourage socially responsible activities.
