of <h1>CBDT Sets Record: 4.14 Crore Tax Returns Processed, Over Rs. 37,870 Crore in Refunds Issued in FY 2015-16.</h1> The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) achieved a record in taxpayer services for the financial year 2015-16. The Centralized Processing Centre (CPC) in Bengaluru processed over 4.14 crore income tax returns, a 35% increase from the previous year, and issued more than 1.61 crore refunds above Rs. 100, marking a 47% rise. Refunds totaling Rs. 37,870 crore were issued, with 67% processed within 30 days. The Income Tax Department issued refunds exceeding Rs. 1,17,000 crore. Taxpayers are encouraged to verify their returns electronically to expedite processing. E-filing saw a 26.83% increase, with 4.34 crore returns filed electronically.
