Over the past decade, the area under horticulture has expanded by 2.7% annually, and production has increased by 7% each year. Since 2012-13, horticulture production has surpassed food grain production. The Twelfth Plan saw an increase in the horticulture plan outlay to 4.6%. In 2013-14, horticulture production reached 283.5 million tonnes. Notably, fruit production grew by 9.5% annually in 2013-14, and the area under horticulture crops grew by 18% from 2010-11 to 2014-15.
