Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana Shifts Focus to Accessible Cash-Out Facilities and Expands Financial Inclusion Efforts.
The Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojana (PMJDY) has shifted its focus from merely opening bank accounts to providing accessible cash-out facilities. Since its launch in August 2014, nearly 180 million accounts have been opened, and 157.4 million Rupay debit cards issued, mobilizing over Rs. 220 billion. The initiative aims to enhance financial inclusion by ensuring cash withdrawal facilities are within reach, supported by an expanding network of bank branches, ATMs, and Bank Mitras. Overdraft facilities are available without requiring Aadhaar, and banks have been instructed to revise guidelines to improve accessibility and service delivery.
