Allahabad Bench of CESTAT to have circuit bench for atleast 7 days in a month.
A Division Bench of Allahabad High Court on 31-7-2015 directed the CESTAT to ensure that the circuit bench of the CESTAT shall function at Allahabad atleast 7 days in a month till a regular Bench is established. The Court also directed the Registrar CESTAT to search a suitable space and the Central Government has also been directed to acquire the properties in Allahabad city for establishing the CESTAT Bench. The matter is now listed for further directions on 7-8-2015. Earlier the Finance Ministry in October 2013 has notified the establishment of Additional Bench at Allahabad but no effective steps were taken by the authorities, hence the establishment of additional bench at Allahabad is being monitored by the High Court
Shri H.K. Thakur, Member (technical) transferred to CESTAT, Kolkata.
Shri H.K. Thakur, presently Member (Technical) at CESTAT, Ahmedabad transferred to CESTAT Kolkata consequent upon retirement of Shri IP Lal, Member (Technical) CESTAT Kolkata. Earlier, Shri Thakur has sought voluntary retirement from September 2015.
Circuit bench requirement: CESTAT must sit regularly in Allahabad pending establishment of a permanent bench. The High Court directed that a circuit bench of the CESTAT shall operate in Allahabad on a recurring monthly basis until a permanent bench is constituted; the Registrar is to identify suitable premises and the Central Government to acquire property for the bench, with the court monitoring implementation and listing the matter for further directions.
