SBI Education Loans: No Income-Based Flexible EMIs, Offers Moratorium Extensions and Settlement Options for Defaulters.
The Indian Banks Association has developed a Model Education Loan Scheme for member banks to support students pursuing higher education. While banks can modify the scheme as needed, the State Bank of India (SBI) currently does not offer income-based flexible EMIs for education loans. Instead, it allows extensions of the moratorium period and loan tenure. SBI reports no immediate filings in Lok Adalat for defaults but offers settlement options for chronic defaulters through mutual agreements in Lok Adalat. This information was provided by the Minister of State in the Ministry of Finance in a written response to the Lok Sabha.
