India and GCC Resume Free Trade Agreement Talks After 2009 Delay; Awaiting New Negotiation Date from Secretariat General.
India is in the process of negotiating a Free Trade Agreement with the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC), which includes Kuwait, UAE, Saudi Arabia, Oman, Bahrain, and Qatar. Two negotiation rounds have occurred in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in 2006 and 2008. A third round was planned for 2009 in India but was postponed as the GCC Secretariat decided to defer negotiations with all countries until a comprehensive review. The Secretariat General will notify India of the resumption date. The Ministry of Commerce and Industry is consulting relevant departments on potential tariff concessions.
