This information was given by the Minister of State for Textiles, Smt.Panabaaka Lakshmi in a written reply in the Rajya Sabha today to a question raised by Shri Dhiraj Prasad Sahu.
The Minister further stated that there are no reports of textile workers facing problems as a result of recession in the textiles sector. In fact, as per a survey carried out by the Labour Bureau of the Ministry of Labour & Employment, the textiles sector has generated 1.52 lakh employment opportunities, the second largest for any sector in the country, between June 2009 and June 2010.
Export targets for textiles contrasted with actual exports; minister reports no sectoral job losses and employment gains. Targets and achievements for exports of textiles and clothing are presented for 2007-08 through 2010-11, listing actual export values and the April-July 2010-11 partial year; a ministerial reply states there were no reports of worker problems due to the recession, and a Labour Bureau survey found the textiles sector generated 1.52 lakh employment opportunities between June 2009 and June 2010, the second largest increase among sectors.Press 'Enter' after typing page number.
