MNREGS Wage Payments Must Go Through Bank or Post Office Accounts, No Extra Compensation for Cooperative Banks.
Under the Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (MNREGS), all wage payments are mandated to be made through bank or post office accounts, as per the Ministry of Rural Development. According to the revised Schedule II of the MGNREG Act 2005, payments must be processed through these accounts unless exempted. Approximately 74.38 lakh accounts have been opened in cooperative banks for this purpose. The Ministry of Rural Development clarified that no additional compensation is provided to these institutions for wage disbursement under MNREGS. This was stated by the Minister of State for Finance in a written reply to the Lok Sabha.
