        It has been decided to introduce plastic notes in the denomination of Rs. 10. One billion plastic notes of the denomination of Rs. 10 will be introduced in a field trial in five cities selected for their geographical and climatic diversity. These cities are Kochi, Mysore, Jaipur, Shimla and Bhubaneswar. The field trial is expected to be launched in the latter half of 2014.

        This was stated by Minister of State for Finance, Shri Namo Narain Meena, in written reply to a question in the Lok Sabha today.

        Introduction of plastic currency notes begins with a limited field trial in selected diverse cities later this year. Introduction of plastic notes of the ten-rupee denomination will be tested via a field trial deploying one billion notes across five cities chosen for geographical and climatic diversity (Kochi, Mysore, Jaipur, Shimla, Bhubaneswar), with launch scheduled in the latter half of 2014.
