Up to 25.11.2013, the Competition Commission of India has imposed penalty of Rs. 8024.18 crore on 154 parties in various cases out of which an amount of Rs. 19.37 crore has been recovered and deposited in Government Account from 58 parties. Giving this information in written reply to a question in the Rajya Sabha today, Shri Sachin Pilot, Minister of Corporate Affairs, said that The Competition (Amendment) Bill, 2012 introduced in the Lok Sabha, inter-alia, proposes to further strengthen Competition Commission of India (CCI). The Bill is presently under consideration of the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance.
Competition enforcement: CCI imposed penalties on multiple parties and legislative amendments propose to strengthen its powers. Imposition of penalties by the Competition Commission of India: the Commission imposed penalties on 154 parties with a total penalty amount reported, and a portion recovered and deposited in the Government account from 58 parties. The Competition (Amendment) Bill, 2012 is proposed to further strengthen the Competition Commission of India and is under consideration by the Parliamentary Standing Committee on Finance.Press 'Enter' after typing page number.
