As per the records of the Ministry of Corporate Affairs there were a total of 13.45 lakh companies in the official Registry as on 31st August 2013. Also, as many as 1.44 lakh companies have not filed their Annual Returns/ Balance Sheets (i.e., Annual Statutory Filings) for more than 3 consecutive years, and are thus classified as ‘dormant’. As a result, there are actually about 8.99 lakh active companies.
Recently (August 2013) six Government-owned companies were registered under the Companies Act, 1956 as public limited companies with authorized capital of Rs. 4,181 crore. Of these, four are Central Public Sector Undertakings (CPSUs) and two are State Level Public Enterprises (SLPEs). During the month of August 2013, a total of 7,179 companies were registered under the Companies Act, 1956.
Company registry composition highlights active, dormant and closed classifications impacting corporate compliance and registration trends. The corporate registry shows many companies recorded as closed, pending closure, or classified as dormant for failing to file Annual Returns/Balance Sheets for more than three consecutive years, reducing the number of active companies. Recent activity includes registration of government owned entities as public limited companies and notable monthly incorporation volumes under the Companies Act, 1956, indicating ongoing corporatisation and registration trends relevant to compliance and registry administration.Press 'Enter' after typing page number.
