India Launches First Public Sector Women's Bank with Rs. 1,000 Cr Funding to Empower Women and SHGs.
The Finance Minister announced the establishment of India's first public sector Women's Bank with an initial funding of Rs. 1,000 crore, aimed at supporting women and women-run businesses, particularly Self Help Groups (SHGs). A committee of eminent bankers was formed to develop the bank's blueprint, including its policy framework and business strategy. The committee's report, submitted on April 30, 2013, recommended that the bank provide special credit facilities and training to SHGs to expand its reach. This initiative aims to enhance women's empowerment and financial inclusion, as stated by the Minister of State for Finance in the Lok Sabha.
