Writ classification for eviction from Government highway land permits placement in Group I as a land-law matter.
Writ petitions seeking eviction of unauthorised occupants from Government land appurtenant to a highway may be classified under Group I of the writ rules. Group I encompasses land-law matters, including tenancy disputes, eviction proceedings and miscellaneous land issues. Unauthorised occupation remains a land-related issue even where the land forms part of, or is appurtenant to, a highway. Where more than one classification may apply, the writ petitioner may select an applicable group according to the case facts.

Blanket arrest protection after refusing FIR quashing is impermissible where statutory anticipatory bail remains available.
Article 226 jurisdiction may exceptionally prevent miscarriage of justice or abuse of process, but cannot routinely replace the statutory remedy of anticipatory bail. Where pre-arrest bail is available, an accused must seek relief before the competent Sessions Court. After declining to quash an FIR, a High Court cannot grant blanket protection from arrest until the police report is filed, because such protection is impermissible and prejudices a lawful investigation.

Recorded satisfaction under Section 14A governs whether Rule 8D can increase exempt-income expenditure disallowance beyond voluntary computation.
Section 14A(2) requires the Assessing Officer to record objective satisfaction, after examining the assessee's accounts, that the assessee's own disallowance of expenditure relating to exempt income is incorrect before applying Rule 8D. General observations about mixed funds, insufficient details, or the amount of exempt income do not establish the required account-based dissatisfaction. Without recorded satisfaction meeting this statutory standard, Rule 8D cannot support a further disallowance and the assessee's suo motu disallowance must be accepted.

Administrative policy affecting such rights remains subject to judicial review, with prospective application identified as a relevant safeguard. The Supreme Court declined to interfere with the High Court order and dismissed the special leave petitions.

GST confiscation procedure requires a real and reasonable hearing. Where Form GST MOV-10 allows seven days to reply, an authority cannot issue Form GST MOV-11 on the service date and rely on the absence of an immediate objection. Missing invoice or e-way bill for onward supply may warrant inquiry but does not remove statutory hearing protections. Later issuance of Form GST DRC-07 does not cure a prematurely made confiscation decision. Payment through Form GST DRC-03 to release detained goods and vehicle does not itself constitute admission, acquiescence, or waiver of the right to contest.
