Difficulties in paying online service tax for multipple services

Achyut Kale

Dear Freiends,

Recently I have accross the situation that,  as per directives of recent Service tax Notification, we have amended Service tax registration Certificate and added all individual services for which we are paying service tax. At peresent we are liable to pay service tax on total nine service. While paying tax online, portal has privented to pay service tax on more than six account heads. That one can pay service tax on only four services plus E.Cess & SHE. If I pay service tax for remaining account heads by another challan then there is another difficluty that we can put data of only one challan while submitting only service tax return. Pl guide.

Regards

A D kale

Service tax payment limits restrict online challan composition; use multiple challans and report them in the ST-3 return. Online payment portals limit the number of service tax account heads per electronic challan; taxpayers liable for more services must make additional challans to cover remaining heads. Administrative recourse can be sought from tax authorities or trade associations. The operative filing mechanism is the ST-3 return, which allows entry of multiple challan details for payments made in the same period; taxpayers should follow ST-3 guidelines or consult tax practitioners to report all payments. You may bring this matter to the knowledge of the concerned authority.

I agree that while paying service, we can include maximum 6 heads in one payment, for more heads we have to make a new payment. This difficulty can be brought to attention of corncerned Tax authorities or you may reprsented the matter before your trade association etc. to take the matter with corncerned authorities.

As regards, difficulty in submitting data in ST- returns,in online ST-3 return has provision to add challan details if we have made more than one payment in month/quarter. You may refer to Guidelines to fill ST-3 return or seek advice from Tax practioners.
