VALIDITY OF THE DFIA/ADVANCE LICENCE

Hamid Syed

The advance licences/DFIA's being issued now a days by RLA's is having vallidity upto 31.03.2014 i.e. if the licence is issued in the month of Jan., 2013 it will be valid till 31.03.2014. In this case the validity if only 14 months. Whereas the licence validity if 24 months, as per the Policy.

When asked, the RLA's reply is that since the policy is valid upto 31.03.2014, the licences issued will have the valdiity upto 31.03.2014 only.

As an importer, we are confused. Can any body throw some light on this issue.

Thanks/Regards/Syed

Licence validity curtailed to policy expiry, creating uncertainty over statutory two-year term for advance/DFIA licences. The issue is that RLAs are issuing advance licences/DFIAs with expiry fixed to the governing policy's end date rather than the standard statutory licence term, resulting in licences that are effectively shorter than the expected period and creating uncertainty for importers about compliance and utilisation timelines.
