Clarification about Excise Registration.

DHARMENDRA SINGH

We have manufacturer & exporter of Cotton & Leather hand bags, fashion Accessories, made ups etc & having turn over up to 3 crore & also have SSI registration.

Please guide us we are eligble for excise registration or not.

Excise registration requirement: exporters must register when local turnover exceeds the prescribed threshold; deductions for exports and SEZ supplies apply. A manufacturer exporter must obtain excise registration if local taxable turnover exceeds Rs. 150 lakhs in a financial year; registration may be taken voluntarily earlier. The turnover test is applied after deducting direct exports and supplies to EOUs and SEZs. Registered persons qualify for cenvat credit, must maintain records, and are liable to pay central excise duty on dutiable transactions. (AI Summary)

dear mr. dharmendra Singh,

1.  If your local turnover is more than Rs. 150 lakhs in a financial year, then you have to seek registration under central excise

2.  You can take registration even earlier at your option.

3.   Once you are excise net, you are entitled for cenvat credit benefit, required to maintain records and pay central excise duty.

4.  After deducting direct export turnover, supply to EOU, supply to SEZ , if the turnover exceeds Rs. 150 lakhs then only you will be compulsorily required to take registration.

With best wishes,
