Trading in F & O

Member trading restrictions: professional members should seek regulator clarification before engaging in commodity or F&O trading.
Whether a member without a Certificate of Practice may trade in commodities or F&O is disputed: one view permits non-practising members to trade while restricting practising members from other commercial activities without permission; another advises seeking formal clarification from the professional body because engagement in trading or business outside permitted professional services is generally proscribed. (AI Summary)
Can a member not holding COP do trading in commodity, F&O?

2. I think you should approach to ICAI, institute of chartered accountants of India and ask for a clarification. Since from practical point of view, many practicing chartered accountants are engaged in trading of shares, I doubt that they have obtained any permission for ICAI, but how they are are working, you need to consult with them only in your circle. As such engagement in any trading or business other than professional activities is banned.
