Star Export House Status – Eligibility & Validity Consideration
The Star Export House Certificate is granted under India’s Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) by the Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT). The status is awarded based on past export performance measured in terms of FOB value (in USD) during the current plus previous three financial years. Once issued, the certificate is valid for 5 years from the date of issue and can be used to avail various export-related benefits.
Retention of Star Export House Status Despite Zero Exports
If you have been granted Three Star Export House status in 2023 with validity till March 2026, then the status remains valid for the entire duration, regardless of export performance during the intervening years. There is no provision under current policy that automatically cancels or revokes the status due to zero exports in a subsequent year.
However, you must ensure the following:
Compliance: Continue to comply with all relevant FTP guidelines, such as filing returns and not violating any export norms.
Renewal: When applying for renewal after expiry, DGFT will again assess export performance over the previous 3 years. If performance is not adequate, renewal may not be granted.
Conclusion
Your existing Three Star Export House status remains valid until 03/2026, even if no exports have occurred in the past year. There is no automatic rejection or cancellation solely due to zero export performance unless any policy violations or compliance failures occur. For renewal post-2026, ensure sufficient export turnover during the relevant assessment period.
