It seems you're facing an issue with logging into the Income Tax Portal using your TAN (Tax Deduction and Collection Account Number), where you're getting an "access denied" message, but logging in with your PAN works fine. Here's a quick guide to help you troubleshoot the issue:

Possible Reasons for the Issue:

  1. TAN-Specific Login Issues:

The Income Tax Portal allows both PAN-based and TAN-based logins, but certain features or sections are accessible only when logged in with the PAN. If you're trying to log in using TAN, ensure that:

    • Your TAN is correctly linked to your login credentials.
    • You're accessing the correct section of the portal that requires TAN.
  1. Incorrect Login Credentials:

Ensure you're entering the correct TAN and password associated with your TAN login. If you've forgotten your password or suspect an issue with your credentials, you may need to reset them.

  1. Different Access Permissions:

Some features or services on the portal may require PAN credentials instead of TAN credentials. This is common for individual tax filings or returns, where the system is likely set to work with the PAN.

  1. Browser or Cache Issue:

Sometimes, the cache or cookies in your browser may cause issues with logging in. Try clearing your browser’s cache or use a different browser to see if the issue persists.

  1. Account Linking:

If you’ve recently registered with your TAN but the account hasn't been properly linked to the Income Tax Portal, you might face login issues. Ensure your TAN is correctly linked to your portal account by checking the registration details.

Steps to Resolve the Issue:

1. Reset Your TAN Login Credentials:

If you're unable to log in with your TAN, you can reset the password for your TAN-based login:

  • Visit the Income Tax Portal.
  • Click on Login Here and then select the Forgot Password option.
  • Choose the option for TAN login, enter the required details (TAN number, etc.), and follow the prompts to reset your password.

2. Clear Browser Cache or Try Incognito Mode:

  • Clear the cache and cookies from your browser.
  • Alternatively, you can try logging in using Incognito Mode or a different browser (e.g., Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox) to see if the issue persists.

3. Confirm Correct Access:

Ensure you're trying to access the section that requires TAN login. For example, if you're trying to file TDS returns or make payments using TAN, those sections should work with the TAN login. If you're accessing the wrong section (meant for PAN), you might encounter an "access denied" error.

4. Verify TAN Registration Status:

  • Log in using PAN and check the "Profile" or "My Account" section.
  • Ensure that the TAN is properly linked with your account. If not, you might need to update or verify your TAN registration on the portal.

5. Contact Income Tax Support:

If none of the above solutions work, you can reach out to the Income Tax Department for technical support:

  • Go to the Income Tax Portal and visit the Contact Us section.
