Importers with DEPB at Major Ports Can Use TRA System for Flexible Import Locations Under Customs Rules
Importers holding Duty Exemption Pass-Book (DEPB) registered at any of the four major ports-Delhi, Mumbai, Calcutta, and Chennai-are permitted to import goods through any of these ports under the Trade Release Advice (TRA) system, regardless of the port of registration. This facility, aimed at easing import procedures, applies only to imports and not exports, and is limited to DEPB holders registered at these specified ports. Imports at other ports must continue to be made at the port of DEPB registration. The TRA issued by the Customs House at the registration port must detail the goods, DEPB serial number, date, and duty entitlement, and the importing Customs House will maintain import records accordingly.
