Transshipment of Import Containers Allowed from Customs Port to CFS under Section 8(a) of Customs Act, 1962
Permission is granted for the transshipment of import containers from the designated customs port to a Container Freight Station (CFS) within the same port area, specifically from Jawahar Customs House to CFS Mulund, Bombay. This authority is derived from Section 8(a) of the Customs Act, 1962, which empowers Customs Commissioners to designate areas for loading and unloading goods. Such transshipment is permissible under Notification No. 61/95-Cus. (N.T.) and related Board circulars. The circular clarifies that transshipment to a CFS within the port is considered part of the port's customs area and is therefore authorized under existing customs regulations.
