Amendment Restores One-Time Conversion Facility from EOUs and EPZs to EPCG Scheme Under Notification No. 171/95
The circular addresses amendments to customs notifications concerning the conversion of 100% Export Oriented Units (EOUs) and similar schemes to the Export Promotion Capital Goods (EPCG) Scheme. Initially, a one-time conversion facility was allowed by paying 15% duty on capital goods, but this benefit was made inapplicable from May 1, 1995. To extend the facility beyond this date, a subsequent notification was issued; however, inconsistencies rendered the conversion ineffective from that date. To resolve this, Notification No. 171/95 was issued on December 26, 1995, amending prior notifications by removing restrictive references, thereby reinstating the one-time conversion facility for EOUs, EPZs, and related units to the EPCG Scheme. The circular requests that this amendment be communicated to trade and industry through public notices to avoid future difficulties in conversions.
