Customs Notification 50 expands transhipment authorization to all notified ports, ICDs and airports under section 7
The Central Board of Excise & Customs issued Notification No. 50-Customs (NT) dated September 6, 1995, designating all Customs ports, including Inland Container Depots (ICDs) and Customs airports notified under section 7 of the Customs Act, 1962, as authorized places for transhipment of imported goods. This notification aims to create uniformity in transhipment procedures and improve administrative convenience. Previously, transhipment without duty payment was limited to specific major ports and select airports, with other locations requiring case-by-case approval from proper officers. The new notification enables automatic transhipment of imported goods at all notified Customs locations, eliminating the need for individual assessments. Several previous notifications appointing specific airports and ICDs as transhipment locations have been rescinded, as they are now covered under the comprehensive notification. Field officers are instructed to implement suitable standing orders and inform trade interests of these changes.
