DGFT Clarifies Onion Export Rules: Cut, Sliced, or Powdered Onions Exempt from Ban Under Notification No. 13.
The circular from the Directorate General of Foreign Trade, dated February 11, 2011, addresses the export conditions for onions. It clarifies that while the export of whole onions, whether fresh, chilled, frozen, or dried, is prohibited as per Notification No. 13 dated December 22, 2010, onions that are cut, sliced, or broken into powder form are exempt from this prohibition and can be exported freely. This clarification is intended to eliminate any ambiguity regarding the export status of different forms of onions as outlined in Chapter 7 of the ITC(HS) Classification of Export & Import Items.
