Gold and silver coin imports by passengers clarified to permit coins including commemoratives, subject to existing Customs notifications and exclusions
Departmental instructions were modified to record that import of gold and silver in coin form by eligible passengers is permissible, including current, non-current and commemorative coins, because the RBI indicated no FERA restriction on such foreign coins; the operative effect is that eligible passengers may import coins subject to compliance with the conditions in Notification Nos. 171/94-Cus. or 172/94-Cus. (as applicable). Jewellery studded with stones or pearls remains excluded. Earlier Ministry guidance of 31 August 1994 is accordingly superseded for these items.
