        <h1>Foreign direct investment prohibition in manufacture of cigarettes and related tobacco products imposed; activity added to prohibited sectors.</h1> The policy now prohibits foreign direct investment in the manufacture of cigars, cheroots, cigarillos and cigarettes of tobacco or tobacco substitutes. The prior provision permitting FDI under the government approval route and subject to industrial licensing has been deleted and the activity expressly added to the list of sectors where FDI is prohibited, with immediate effect as an amendment to the Consolidated FDI Policy.
