Finance Ministry Reduces Processing Time for Destruction of Excisable Goods to Two Days to Aid Trade.
The Ministry of Finance, Department of Revenue, addressed concerns raised by the trade regarding delays in obtaining permission to destroy excisable goods. During a meeting in July 1986, it was noted that the Central Excise Authorities were taking an excessive amount of time, causing difficulties for the trade. Existing instructions mandated a two-month timeframe for processing such requests, which was deemed too long. The Board decided that, moving forward, applications for destruction should be processed within two days if no testing is required, to alleviate the burden on the trade.
