of <h1>Rule 56B of Central Excise Rules, 1944, to be deleted on Dec 10, 1987, due to MODVAT expansion.</h1> Rule 56B of the Central Excise Rules, 1944, is set to be deleted effective December 10, 1987, as announced in Notification No. 165/87. The deletion is due to the extension of MODVAT to most commodities and the applicability of duty to semi-finished goods under Rule 2(A) of the Central Excise Tariff Act, 1985, which has diminished Rule 56B's relevance. Commodities under MODVAT will require duty payment even if semi-finished, or Rule 57F provisions may apply. For non-MODVAT commodities, Rule 56A will govern duty payment or removal. Collectors are expected to publicize this change and review existing permissions under Rule 56B.
