of <h1>Excise Board Clarifies Overtime Fees for Cut-Tobacco Supervision; Rule 224 Requires Fees Outside Normal Hours.</h1> The Central Board of Excise & Customs has issued instructions regarding the recovery of overtime fees for supervising the clearance of cut-tobacco used in cigarette manufacturing. The Board noted inconsistencies in practices and clarified that cut-tobacco is under physical control, requiring supervision by Central Excise Officers. No overtime fees are required for clearances during normal working hours. However, for supervision between 6:00 PM and 6:00 AM on working days, or at any time on holidays and Sundays, overtime fees must be collected from the assessee as per Rule 224 of the Central Excise Rules, 1944.
