of <h1>India Cuts Excise Duty on Cold Storage Parts to 15%; Calls for Monitoring to Prevent Misuse of Exemptions.</h1> The Government of India has reduced the excise duty on parts and accessories of refrigeration and air-conditioning appliances used in cold storage installations from 40% to 15% ad valorem, as per notification No. 45/88-C.E. There have been requests to extend this exemption to equipment used in milk handling, meat processing, fish processing, ice making, and marine product transportation. The Board emphasizes the need for strict monitoring to prevent misuse of the exemption and requests quarterly reports on the number of units benefiting from the concession and the value of clearances. Any misuse should be promptly reported, and suggestions for safeguards are encouraged.
