India Simplifies Tea Export Rebates: New Notifications Issued to Ease Excise Duty Claims.
The Government of India has addressed difficulties in claiming rebates on central excise duty for tea exports under Notification No. 408/86. To resolve these issues, new notifications (Nos. 14/88, 15/88, and 16/88) were issued on March 1, 1988, as part of the 1988 Budget. These notifications simplify the procedure for future claims. For exports prior to March 1, 1988, the procedure outlined in Notification No. 171/81, dated October 17, 1981, can be followed for tea exported from locations other than tea gardens. A trade notice will be issued to inform the trade community.
