of <h1>Faceless Penalty Scheme Update: Existing Assessment Centres to Function as Penalty Centres Until Dedicated Units Established</h1> The Central Board of Direct Taxes has issued an order under the Faceless Penalty Scheme, 2021, directing that until the establishment of dedicated National and Regional Faceless Penalty Centres and Units, existing National and Regional Faceless Assessment Centres and Units will function as these penalty centres and units. This directive applies to various income-tax authorities, including Principal Chief Commissioners and Joint Commissioners, who will assume the roles and responsibilities of their counterparts in the penalty centres. This order is effective immediately, with a Hindi version to follow.
