of <h1>Ministry of Finance updates excise duty on cut-tobacco; new tariff rate at 225% ad valorem under Chapter X.</h1> The circular from the Ministry of Finance, Central Board of Excise & Customs, addresses changes in the excise duty on cut-tobacco. Following the 1989 Budget amendments to Notification No. 356/86-C.E., a concessional duty rate is applied to cut-tobacco intended for cigarette manufacturing at different premises, provided Chapter X procedures are followed. The tariff rate has increased to 225% ad valorem. Consequently, previous instructions under Circular No. 67/88-CX.6 are now obsolete, and field formations are advised to update their practices accordingly.
