Tuticorin Customs Mandates Body-Worn Camera Jackets for Boarding Officers; Effective April 15, 2023.
The Customs Department at Tuticorin has issued a public notice regarding the use of jackets with body-worn cameras by vessel Boarding Officers. Effective from April 15, 2023, these officers must wear jackets with cameras during their duties on vessels. The cameras should be positioned to capture interactions from the officer's perspective and activated upon boarding. Officers must inform shipping agents about the mandatory recording, who will then notify the vessel's master. The cameras are standalone devices without Wi-Fi or SIM functionality. If deemed unsafe by a vessel's Safety Officer, camera use may be restricted, with necessary endorsements and notifications to higher authorities.
