Initially, exemptions apply to certain deposits, but from May 1, 2023, payments for courier shipments must use ECL. This system aims to streamline payments for customs duties and related charges, offering benefits like reduced payment rejections and ease of compliance. Registration on the ICEGATE portal is required, and deposits can be made via internet banking, NEFT, or RTGS. Refunds of unused balances are possible, and stakeholders are encouraged to transition to this new system.
