India Allows Wheat Exports to Nepal on Humanitarian Grounds; Exporters Must Apply Online by June 30 for Quota Allocation.
The Government of India has established a procedure for exporting wheat on humanitarian and food security grounds, despite a general prohibition on wheat exports. Exceptions are made for shipments with an Irrevocable Letter of Credit or advance payment before the prohibition date, and for government-approved requests from other countries. The Government of Nepal's request for wheat import during FY 2023-24 has been approved. Exporters with a history of wheat exports to Nepal can apply online for quota allocation. Applications are open from June 21 to June 30, 2023, and must meet specific criteria, including a minimum threshold of 100 MT. The export authorization is valid until March 31, 2024.
