Modvat Credit Denied for Anodes and Cathodes in Zinc Manufacturing; Not Classified as Inputs Under CBEC Guidelines.
The Central Board of Excise & Customs has determined that Modvat credit is not admissible for anodes and cathodes used in the electrolytic process of zinc manufacturing. Following consultation with the Deputy Chief Chemist, it was concluded that these components conduct electricity but do not participate in or get consumed during the reaction. Therefore, they cannot be classified as inputs for Modvat credit purposes. This decision should be communicated to relevant trade and field formations, and acknowledgment of this circular is requested.
