Ministry of Finance Suspends AGMARK Certification Requirement for Imported Food Products Due to Lack of Overseas Certification.
The circular from the Ministry of Finance, dated September 9, 2022, addresses the requirement of AGMARK certification for imported food products. The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) issued a new advisory on August 18, 2022, modifying a previous advisory from July 2020. The new directive states that the requirement for AGMARK certification for imported food consignments is temporarily suspended due to the lack of overseas certification under the Agricultural Produce (Grading and Marking) Act of 1937 by the Directorate of Marketing and Inspection (DMI). The previous instruction from July 2020 is accordingly modified.
