DGFT Clarifies Non-Ferrous Metal Import Rules: No NFMIMS for Air Freight; Optional QCO Descriptions; Single Registration Validity.
The Directorate General of Foreign Trade (DGFT) issued a policy circular clarifying aspects of the Non-Ferrous Metal Import Monitoring System (NFMIMS) following amendments to the import policy for copper and aluminum. NFMIMS registration is not required for air-freighted goods, which are typically for urgent, small-volume, high-value imports. Multiple consignments can be imported under a single registration within its validity. Providing Quality Control Order (QCO) descriptions in NFMIMS is optional, and customs officers are not mandated to check this information. NFMIMS applies to imports under Advance Authorization, Duty-Free Import Authorization (DFIA), and Special Economic Zones (SEZs).
