Regulatory Authority Eases Short-Term Investment Limits for FPIs in Debt Securities Until October 31, 2022.
The circular issued by the regulatory authority outlines relaxations for Foreign Portfolio Investors (FPIs) in debt investments. Between July 8, 2022, and October 31, 2022, FPIs are exempt from the 30% limit on short-term investments in government securities and corporate bonds. Additionally, FPIs are permitted to invest in commercial papers and non-convertible debentures with an original maturity of up to one year during this period, exempting these from short-term investment limits. Authorized banks are instructed to inform their clients of these changes, which are effective immediately under the Foreign Exchange Management Act, 1999.
