Customs Authority Goes Paperless: Shipping Bills and e-Gatepasses Now Sent Electronically to Boost Efficiency and Security.
The customs authority has announced a shift to paperless operations by electronically communicating PDF copies of Shipping Bills and e-Gatepasses to customs brokers and exporters. Effective from June 22, 2020, digital copies will replace physical printouts, enhancing efficiency and security. The electronic documents will include encrypted QR codes for verification and will be shared via email. This initiative supports the broader goal of faceless, contactless, and paperless customs procedures, reducing compliance costs and improving business ease. Physical document handling will be minimized, with exceptions allowed only in specific scenarios. All export-related documents must be uploaded in the eSanchit system.
