India Updates Currency Regulations for Travel: Rs. 25,000 Limit for Residents and Non-Residents.
The public notice from the Indian Ministry of Finance outlines updated regulations for the export and import of Indian currency. Residents of India can now carry up to Rs. 25,000 in currency notes when traveling abroad, excluding trips to Nepal and Bhutan. This limit also applies when bringing currency back into India from other countries. Additionally, non-residents visiting India, excluding citizens and travelers from Pakistan and Bangladesh, can carry the same amount when entering or exiting through an airport. These changes were implemented following the Reserve Bank of India's directive dated June 19, 2014.
