of <h1>Mumbai Customs: EDD Payments Now Online via ICES; Manual Payments Discontinued for Faster Goods Clearance.</h1> The circular from the Office of the Principal Commissioner of Customs (Import) in Mumbai announces the integration of the Extra Duty Deposit (EDD) module into the Indian Customs EDI System (ICES). Previously, EDD payments were made manually, causing delays in goods clearance. Now, importers and Customs Brokers must pay EDD online via e-payment. The Appraising Officer generates a challan for EDD, selecting either 1% or 5% of the assessable value. The system requires EDD payment before issuing 'Out of Charge.' Manual payments are no longer accepted, and any issues should be reported to the System Manager.
