Chennai Container Terminal Updates Import Procedure: No Double Sealing Required if Original Seal Intact; Effective August 16, 2007.
The procedure for the movement of import containers from the Chennai Container Terminal has been modified to address congestion issues caused by the double sealing of containers. The Customs Preventive Officers will no longer need to affix an additional Customs One Time Bottle Seal (OTBS) if the original seal is intact. If the seal is missing or tampered, Customs officers will reseal the container and ensure it is examined thoroughly. The terminal operator must report any issues with seals daily, and shipping lines must affix a one-time seal and provide necessary details in the Import General Manifest. The modified procedure is effective from August 16, 2007.
